A new year is a great time for a new start, and fulfilling a few resolutions. If your plan in 2017 is to write a novel for the very first time, this is the episode for you! This one is particularly intended for anyone who wants to write, but has never attempted it before (although we hope it’ll also be packed with tips – and a fair amount of encouragement – for seasoned writers, too).
After answering our first listener question of the year (and all being entirely too nice to one another), we talk about whether you should be planning your novel, how to keep writing when things get tough, and the value of finding a community of writers. We also cover the value – or lack of it – in pursuing a formal education in Creative Writing, and what to do if a college degree just isn’t something you can, or want to, tackle. Most of all, we hope this episode will give you a bit of encouragement, even if it’s of the tough love variety. Writing can be incredibly difficult, but also incredibly rewarding.
And, of course, we’re here for you! Got questions as you embark on your novel-writing odyssey? Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org, or find us on Twitter @wahpodcast. If we’ve inspired you to write, even better. We’d love to hear your story!
Final note: we mention Narratess in this episode, a new site for writers, of which Raven is one of the co-hosts. Stories, writing advice, author profiles – exactly what a budding writer needs!
Final, final note: we’re making some changes to our podcast schedule this year, meaning episodes will be going up on alternate Fridays, rather than Mondays. Of course, if you’re subscribed to our feed, or keep up with our Twitter account, you’ll get notifications every time there’s a new episode, anyway – we recommend you do both!
